Making a Way
Poem about a labyrinth in the snow
Making a Way

I have read and written many poems at Holy Cross Monastery in West Park, NY, over the years. But this is the one poem I’ve written about Holy Cross (so far!), specifically about an experience in their labyrinth in the winter of 2015. It was published in The Episcopal New Yorker’s Summer 2018 pilgrimage edition. There are several pieces I worked on while on retreat last weekend that I look forward to sharing with you soon!
Beloved poetry books I’ve purchased from the Monk’s Cell Bookstore:
Idiot Psalms by Scott Cairns
How to Love the World: Poems of Gratitude and Hope, Edited by James Crews
The Backwater Sermons by Jay Hulme
Word Made Fresh: An Invitation to Poetry for the Church by Abram Van Engen
And some poems I found online by John Forbis, OHC brother, poet, and friend:
“This is the Night for Yahweh” (The Christian Century)
“Like Rocks” (The Christian Century) & video
