Ps 4 & Ps 91
Bedtime poems based on compline psalms
Ps 4 Stop to Sleep
Answer please. I am calling. I am praying. I know you hear and know my fear. In bed, in silence, I turn inward, trusting that today is not the full story. Tomorrow you will send new light. So tonight, I stop to sleep. God, grant us safety and peace.
Ps 91 Let love inhabit our dreams
Sheltered in your shadow, my trusted refuge, my God. You protect us from night terrors, diseases, and dangers of the day. We look to you for sanctuary, keep evil away from our homes. We trust angels to watch over us, let love inhabit our dreams. When we call out, you reply: I am here, I hear your prayers.
These are part of a series of short Ps poems inspired by the Psalms:
Ps 1 & 23 / Ps 30 & 42 / Ps 51 & 84 / Ps 95 & 100 / Ps 118 & 130 / Ps 46

What a photo, says so much, as do your poems! Keep them coming. Marcia
If I’m short on time putting my toddler to bed, I’ve been saying “guide us while waking & guard us while sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ and asleep we may rest in peace” and now he chimes in with Amen 🙏🏼
